Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) • Federal law mandating special education services for eligible students • Continuum of Services Least to Most Restrictive: Least – Neighborhood school / class student would attend if not exceptional (Full Inclusion) Intermediary – Special class in neighborhood school , special class in another school in home district, etc. Most – Residential School / Instruction in the Home

CHILD FIND • Responsibility to ensure that all children with disabilities, including children with disabilities who are homeless children or wards of the State, regardless of the severity of their disability, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located and evaluated

  4. Request for Evaluation Psycho-educational Evaluation by certified school psychologist Evaluation Report meeting with multi-disciplinary team If student is found to have a disability and is in need of Specially Designed Instruction, an IEP is developed Individualized Education Program IEP team (including at least the parents, special education teacher, regular education teacher, & LEA representative) meets to develop the IEP Key areas of the IEP Present Levels of Educational Performance Measurable Goals based on the student’s needs Specially Designed Instruction that will allow access to the general curriculum Progress Reporting on IEP Goals EVALUATION PROCESS
