  2. Our mission External Affairs advances non-philanthropic relationships between key stakeholders within the College of Engineering and those in the outside world, particularly with corporations and government agencies

Our guiding principles External Affairs addresses our mission through a combination of informed insight, creativity and hard work External Affairs builds both internal and external relationships based on trust and credibility External Affairs seeks to advance a culture of excellence and relevance by setting an example through succeeding with those who are both able and interested

  4. Grow corporate and governmentresearch funding • Create new large-scale center corporate and government funding opportunities • Support the business development efforts of existing centers • Manage relationships with industry and government executives via college advisory board

  5. Enhance employment opportunitiesfor our students and alumni • Connect students and alumni with employers through on-campus recruiting events, technology resources, and expanding partnerships • Mentor students and alumni in developing successful job search plans and in managing successful careers

  6. Provide life-long learning opportunities • Produce, market and deliver on-line courses, certificates and degrees with a variety of units for our alumni, corporate partners and the broader engineering community • Currently the only top-ranked college of engineering with open enrollment online education program • All courses identical to those offered on campus

Grow technology transfer andeconomic development opportunities • Collaborate with the staff of the Office of Technology Management (OTM) in increasing invention disclosures, and marketing and licensing of our college’s technology portfolio • Collaborate with the staff of the Grants and Contracts Office (GCO) and the Office of Research Administration (ORA) in the negotiation of industrial research relationships • Collaborate with the staff of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Research Park and its developer, and the Office of the Vice President for Technology and Economic Development to help drive economic development
