Spanish Colonization • Spain wasn’t interested in colonizing areas with no gold/silver or sparse populations: northern Mexico and southern South America • Amerindian groups: Puebloans of New Mexico and Mapuche of Patagonia, violently resisted Hispanization • Northern borders: San Francisco and Santa Fe.
