Introduction to this subject Coach others in job skills (SITXHRM001A) • This unit describes the, performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide on-the-job coaching to colleagues • There are three elements in this subject • Prepare for on-the-job coaching • Coach colleagues on the job • Follow up coaching
Prepare for on the job coaching • Before we begin coaching we need to understand exactly what coaching is, how it works, how to identify the need and how to plan it • We also need to appreciate the responsibility that comes with being a coach • When we provide coaching in the workplace, we can offer both advice on techniques based on our experience, or we can help our colleagues improve their existing skills
Self Study Tasks • Go to e-learning and under ‘Content’ • We will go through the criteria together • First assessment is due next Tuesday 9 April • Second assessment due next Thursday 11 April

The difference between coaching and mentoring • Coaching and mentoring are two ways in which people with vast experience help those in the same job or field of endeavour who have less experience • Coaching usually deals with specific skills and tactics, while mentoring often is a long-term process and a more personal relationship is formed • In both coaching and mentoring the goal is to help people to reach their full potential • Reference: e how website (March 2013) http://www.ehow.com/about_5095260_definition-coaching-mentoring.html
