Specialized language • Only a specific group of people use it often • Anyone outside of the group will likely be unfamiliar with it • Standard language (what we use in school in papers and the classroom) • Common vocabulary (words everyone is familiar with) • Jargon (noun_ • special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are difficult for others to understand. • Lawyers, teachers, psychologists and journalists all use jargon specific to their field. • Slang is a form of jargon that changes in different localities. • Terminology in your textbooks for each subject is subject specific jargon.
