Library Webscapes

The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County (PLCMC) is undergoing a web redesign to address the changing needs of their users. The new website will focus on customization, personalization, easy access to library resources, quick answers to user queries, and a human touch. This user-driven and collaborative approach will provide a strong identity to each branch while keeping simplicity in design.

Focus Group Feedback • Customization – strong identity with branch over system • Personalization – high need for content personalized to user’s tastes (new books, reading recommendations, Library card info) • Easy Access – Catalog, My Account, branch hours • Quick Answers – help with homework, ask a librarian, and research. • Human Touch – appreciated pictures of people & community over buildings • Simplicity in Design over too much information.
