The Korean War Mon 6th June 25, 1950-? (Technically the two sides are still at war) • The 38th parallel still divides North and South Korea • This war started out as a Civil War in Korea, but became a “Proxy War” instead because the US and Russia began giving both sides money. • The US got involved because they were concerned about the “domino effect” • 40,000 US troops died, 5 million people total (died)

9/11 Fri 10th • September 11, 2001 • Terrorist attack was planned by Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist group, Al-Qaeda • 4 planes hijacked- 2 hit the Twin Towers, one hit the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field. • Nearly 3,000 people died • Plane passengers weren’t overly panicked because in the past, hijacked planes would land and demand ransom
9/11 Fri 10th • The people on the last plane heard via cell phone that the planes were crashing into buildings, and fought back. The plane crashed in Pennsylvania, but was intended to crash into the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. • Worst terrorist attack in US history • President George W. Bush decided to invade Afghanistan, where Bin Laden was, and then decided to invade Iraq because he believed they had WMDs (weapons of mass destruction).
