The Skills Pledge in Action Skills for Life – The FBU Approach In a Fire and Rescue Service context, improved SfL are an essential element in delivering all aspects of the services objectives and for enhancing personal development. Learning opportunities should be made available to all staff and the organisational aspiration should be the attainment of numeracy, literacy and ICT skills at level 2 for all staff. From recruitment to retirement SfL improvement should be encouraged, supported and developed.’ Achieved only in partnership with the Trade Union, Employers and Employees Andy Brickles Region 6 Co-ordinator

Aim & Purpose Recognise SfL impinges on all aspects of work regardless of ranks/ grades/ or roles Improving their skills as employees and at home Increase awareness and enthusiasm for SfL within the organisation Gives learners self- esteem with potential of gaining a qualification Challenge the Fire Service Andy Brickles FBU Region 6 Co-ordinator

  5. Critical success factors for the event: Commitment of the Chief Fire officer and Senior Management Team. An identified local ‘lead ‘ or ‘champion’ for the event. Support of the local Union Learning Representative. An event date firmly fixed in the calendar. An additional contribution to the Prize Draw fund.
