Saksham Counselling Supervision Administrative vs. Counselling Supervision Administrative Supervision • The principle is ‘authority'. • The supervisor and supervisee work as per rules, regulations, procedures that go hand in hand with the counselling role • Targets and deadlines are important • Starts and emphasizes ‘trust’ • The supervisor acts as a mentor to counsellors • Focuses on counselling aspect only • Focuses on professional growth – technical competencies and professional development • Targets and deadlines are as important as processes • Feedback and scope for improving the counselling supervision system
Unique outreach and implementation process • Spread out in 24 states, NCR-Delhi and one Union Territory • Systematic roll out; planned number of visits and planned tasks for each visit • Research and monitoring components built within the system • Feedback from counsellors important component • Sharing data with NACO & SACS • Developing a sustainable model that can be used by NACO
Activities During a Counselling Supervision Visit • Meeting with the Medical Officer in Charge and other staff at the ICTC • Assessment of the work environment, and counselling skills of the counsellor • Direct case observation at the ICTC, case presentation, discussion, guidance and support to counsellors • Administration of tools (Assessment of Counsellors Effectiveness, Job satisfaction and Burn out) • Getting written feedback from counsellors
