  2. Make a T-Chart • On the Front and Back of your paper • Place the word “Hero” in the top left corner • Place the word “Tyrant” in the top right corner

  3. List historical figures who are heroes and tyrants • List at least 3 each for each

Assignment • Read pages 229-235 • As you read complete a T-Chart for Hero and Tyrant • Put information that makes Napoleon look like a hero on the left • Put information that makes him look like a tyrant on the right • Activity – in elbow partners – do both • Make either a wanted poster orcommemorative plaque for Napoleon • 3 things he did to deserve this poster/plague • Why those things are important or deserve the poster/plague • One large image (colorful) • Write a 30 – 45 second statementto be read at a trial of Napoleon telling whether you believe he is guilty of the charge below: • Treason against the causes of the French Revolution

WANTED Maxmillien Robespierre • FOR • Killing over 12,000 French men and women during the Reign of Terror • Removing the freedoms of press and religion during the Terror • Cancelling the French Constitution and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen during the Reign of Terror • These crimes show how Robespierre used the power that he gained during the French Revolution to increase his own social standing and control rather than benefit the citizens of France.

Maxmillien Robespierre A Great French Hero • Robespierre was a French hero for the following reason: • He helped form the National Assembly which wrote the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen and the French Constitution • He brought the ideas of the Enlightenment such as Freedom of Press and Religion, natural Rights, and the social contract of Rousseau to France • He helped end the hierarchical society of Feudalism and the French Monarchy His contributions were important because the people of France needed a strong, energetic leader to end the oppression the experienced for over a thousand years.
