  1. Isolde SGIUBeam InstrumentationRemarks on status and possible development. Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  2. Front-end Faraday cups • GPS.FC20 stuck? • New (spare) units are being assembled. Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  3. Magnet Room cups • GPS.FC495, HRS.FC300 and HRS.FC490 same basic design, with only one part different. • Normally only ONE spare, • This caused problems in 2012. • A complete spare unit cannot be made due to the (small) differences of the three cups. • Parts have been ordered and will be manufactured to allow to put together a spare unit within one hour. Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  4. Controls of Front-End and Magnet Room cups • PAM’s in the Magnet rooms appeared to be very sensitive to single-event upset. • PAM’s moved to the Hall, using “long” cables: degradation of performance. • We will try to split these PAM’s in two parts, keep the control part where it is now and move the Amplifier part to the old position. Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  5. Other 25mm cups • Used at Isolde (scanner-units) and at REX. • The cups themselves are always in stock. • Scanner / FC units: • We have a few spares that need to be repaired, • A lists is being prepared of the parts needed to make a few new units and to fill up the stock of spare parts. • No spare pistons for REX, spares will be ordered. Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  6. REX special devices • REX-Trap collector-plates: • Totally non-standard, no drawings, no end-switches, no visual movement control possible. • One of the two is stuck: • Replace with the other, • Use the broken unit to make a drawing based on “standard” parts and make new units. • EBS.BO10: • NOT standard, maintenance difficult. • ? Drawing ? Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  7. Scanner electronics • The scanner-electronics are old, • Due to the installation of more and more scanners there are no more spares (except for the industrial motor-drivers). • The FPGA is obsolete, it’s programming software too, • The limitation of the four control channels complicates the software (and possibly limits the machine operation). • A new solution has been designed and prototype boards are ready (the FPGA needs to be programmed), but development is halted due to other priorities. Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  8. Grids • Mechanics: • No spares, • Different connectors everywhere… • Electronics: • Not the most reliable system, (degradation due to radiation?) • Make more spares of actual system? • Make new system based on new PS-complex SEM-grid design? Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM

  9. Conclusions • The BI-ML section is aware of the problems of insufficient spares. Staff changes and lack of manpower don’t help. • Some spares are on the way, others are being prepared. • They will study what is missing and have promised to come up with a proposal what to do about the grid-system later this year. • Tape-station? • FNBS or Alison Scanner(s)? Gerrit Jan Focker, BE/BI/PM
