Rock • Rock is naturally occurring solid of one or more minerals or organic materials • Sediments are all rocks that have been weathered and eroded into piece (scientific) • Fragments (not scientific) • Magma—hot fluid materials which are liquid rocks under the earth’s surface
Igneous • Extrusive: has tiny small wholes or small crystals • Formed from cooling magma above earth’s surface • Intrusive: large crystals are formed • Underneath the earth’s surface • Malfic– igneous rocks that are dark in color due to their composition—what minerals make it up • Felsic—igneous rocks that are light in color due to their composition
Sedimentary • Weathering and erosions of all rocks. The creation strata (layers) formed through a process stratification • Erosion—moving of sediments • Clastic: sediments that have been cemented together • Chemical: dissolving salt—usually can see strata (Layers) • Organic: sediments connects by fossils
Metamorphic • Foliated: minerals are arranged in bands or plains • Nonfoliated: minerals are not arranged in bands or plains • 50c to 1000c • Contact: near magma • Regional: earthquakes or rocks moves
