Language Proficiency Levels • Level 1: Beginning/ Advanced Beginning • Level 2: Intermediate • Level 3: Advanced • Level 4: Transitional – exit level
Grade-level expectations (skills and knowledge) • Goal of getting students ready for college and career • Doesn’t dictate specific curriculum or a way of teaching Three-minute video
Shifts in ELA (English Language Arts) • Regular practice with complex texts and their academic language • Reading, writing, and speaking grounded in evidence from texts, both literary and informational • Building knowledge through content-rich non-fiction
Shifts in Math • Greater focus (depth) on fewer topics • Coherence: linking topics and thinking across grades • Rigor: pursue conceptual understanding, procedural skills and fluency, application with equal intensity

ELP Standards • ELP Standards are aligned to Common Core • ELPA21 Assessment will be based on new ELP Standards • ELPA21 will replace WELPA in 2015-2016
New Curriculum (pending adoptionby School Board) • K-2 Literacy Curriculum – aligned with Common Core • K-5 Handwriting Curriculum - No more D’Nealian (slanted) writing - Back to Block Writing and Cursive Writing
