Power to obey Christ’s Commands • (Luke 24:49) I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.“ • (Acts 1:4-5) …wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. {5} For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." • (Acts 1:8) You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses…

All believers are “baptized” by the Spirit = Joined to Christ and other believers • (1 Corinthians 12:13) For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. • (Galatians 3:26-27) You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, {27} for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. • (Romans 8:9)…And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. • (Romans 8:15-16) For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship/adoption as sons. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." {16} The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

Today: Believers still filled with the Spirit, but not speaking in tongues. • The Reality: The Holy Spirit joins us to Christ when we believe on Him. • The Evidence: The first times it happened, there was sound and fire. • Today: Believers still baptized by the Spirit, but no external signs

Filling of the Spirit in Acts • (Acts 2:4) All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. • (Acts 4:8) Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: "Rulers and elders of the people! • (Acts 4:31) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. • (Acts 13:9) Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said…, • (Acts 13:52) And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

  6. The Filling of the Spirit todayand how it shows in our life • (Ephesians 5:18-21) And do not get drunk on wine, which is debauchery. But, be filled with the Spirit. {19} Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Singing and making music in your heart to the Lord, {20} always giving thanks to God the Father for each other, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, {21} and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. (NET Bible) • (Galatians 5:16) So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature… (Galatians 5:22-23) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, {23} gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (NIV)
