HAPPY MONDAY! Do-now: Each of the following sentences needs ONE correction (whether it be to add punctuation, change a word, etc.). Write the correction that needs to be made: • I went to the grocery store today I bought a ton of fruit! • Semi-colon: I went to the grocery store today; I bought a ton of fruit! • Comma with “and”: I went to the grocery store today, and I bought a ton of fruit! • Period: I went to the grocery store today. Tip of the day: Correct or incorrect? I want to write that I have two trees that are both 100-years old each. How would I write that using hyphens? Two hundred-year-old trees. How do you show that you’re talking about the title of a novel? Italicize and capitalize • Tip #15: Farther and further. FARther- distance. further- everything else. • I can’t believe we still have farther to drive! YUCK! (distance) • I want to go further in my life than my parents; I want to be a doctor! (not a distance)
