Monthly Stipend to youth: $600 • $200 for rent • $400 for basic living expenses including bills, food, clothing, transportation and other personal expenses • This could be paid out twice a month in halves like the BAYC model or one large monthly payment Example of Graduated Rent in THP+FC
Gives youth real-world information about the cost of housing • Motivates youth to increase income while in program and likely exit with a higher income • Creates saving account for youth at end of the program to be used for security deposit or something else • Places an emphasis that transition into independent living will occur soon Advantages of graduated rent
Need to remember exactly where each youth is on the rent schedule • Need to carefully account for youth’s money so that all rent “above” what they receive in their stipend is saved on their behalf • Need to increase income of youth Challenges of graduated rent approach
