  1. WP 5.1 Comparison of global costs between multimodal and road transport systems CURRENT STATUS Watermode TC5 Venice, 24th March 2011 Athanasios Chaldeakis - Guido Vettorel 1

  2. Worksteps Identification of the routes/segments connecting the Origin-Destination pairs of the 3 routes Identification of statistical data concerning the traffic flows Comparisons of the real prices and costs associated to the intermodal options identified to move unitised cargo connect the O-D pairs of the 3 main Routes. Assessment time performance and ports operations Identification, evaluation and monetarisation of air emissions Final Report 2

  3. STEP 1 3

  4. STEP 2, route 1 Statistical data collection Route intermediate points described, distances calculated and presented on maps; Detailed presentation of the transhipment infrastructures, of the investments with positive impacts on route traffic improvement; Detailed statistical data concerning commercial flows between countries and specific route data; Evidence of bottlenecks in inland waterways and solutions under implementation/planned; Info on operators and on subsidies and policies for intermodality; 4

  5. STEP 2, route 2.1 and 2.2 Statistical data collection Route intermediate points described, distances calculated and presented on maps; Detailed presentation of the transhipment infrastructures, of the investments with positive impacts on route traffic improvement; Detailed statistical data concerning commercial flows between countries; Info on operators and on subsidies and policies for intermodality; 5

  6. STEP 2, route 2.3 and 2.4 Statistical data collection Route intermediate points described, distances calculated and presented on maps; Detailed presentation of the transhipment infrastructures ongoing, of the investments with positive impacts on route traffic improvement; General statistical data of the transhipment infrastructures; On route 2.3 statistical data about traffic flows between countries Info on operators and on subsidies and policies for intermodality for route 2.3; 6

  7. STEP 2, route 3 Statistical data collection Route intermediate points described, distances calculated and presented on maps; Methodology: specification about the adaptations needed in consideration of the different traffic analysed and modification of the route; Detailed presentation of the transhipment infrastructures, and of the investments; Detailed statistical data concerning commercial flows between countries and specific route data; Info on operators and on subsidies and policies for intermodality; 7

  8. STEP 3-4 route 1 Intermodal option not necessary: 3 transport modes available from O to D Quotations obtained for IWT, road and rail transport; Infrastructure charges obtained for the points of O and D; Internal costs of the transport modes provided; 8

  9. STEP 3-4 route 2.1 2.2 Intermodal options: maritime+rail, maritime+road Quotations obtained for maritime, road and rail transport; Infrastructure charges obtained for the points of O and D; Internal costs of the transport modes provided; 9

  10. STEP 3-4 route 2.3 2.4 Intermodal options: maritime+rail, maritime+road Quotations obtained for maritime, road and rail transport; Infrastructure charges obtained for the points of O and D; (in progress) Internal costs of the transport modes (in progress); 10

  11. STEP 3-4 route 3 Intermodal options: maritime+rail, maritime+road TEUs and trailer transport considered Quotations obtained for maritime, road and rail transport (subroute 3.1); Infrastructure charges obtained for the points of O and D; (subroute 3.1) Internal costs of the transport modes (subroute 3.1); 11

  12. GENERAL SITUATION Route definition Difficulties in collecting relevant and significant data; Coordination and cooperation DIFFERENT STATUS OF THE ROUTE ANALYSIS 12

  13. CURRENT STATUS OF ROUTE ANALYSIS ROUTE 1: STEPS 1, 2, 3, 4 COMPLETED ROUTE 2.1 2.2: STEPS 1, 2, 3, 4 COMPLETED ROUTE 2.3 2.4: STEPS 1, 2, COMPLETED ; STEPS 3, 4 IN ADVANCED STATUS ROUTE 3: STEPS 1, 2, COMPLETED ; STEPS 3, 4 IN ADVANCED STATUS 13

  14. STEP 5 Identification and evaluation external costs The air pollution results will be displayed for each segment (and each mode) and the monetary costs will be estimated. APV will coordinate the activity Partner will provide inputs when and if requested by APV. 14

  15. STEP 6 FINAL REPORT Each route leader responsible for their route in all STEPS. APV provides template for the final report, which will filled in with contribution of all ORIGINAL DEADLINES: - 15 November 2010 for the templates fulfilled - January 2011 final draft reports (3, 1 for each corridor) ready - February 2011 overall final report ready 15
