Steps of wet rice cultivation • The rice cultivation is divided into 5 different steps: • Seeding • Flooding • Planting • Reaping • Winnowing
Seeding • Conducted during May to November • In May, the river floods and the seeding rice are ready to be transplanted into the ground which had been watered.
Flooding • This process is held on May, together with seeding. • Farmers move some water up to higher fields as they have to be flooded too.
Planting • The seeding rice is planted in the flooded fields after the fields have been ploughed. • The rice will take about six to eight weeks to grow.
Reaping & Harvesting • In the end of July or beginning of the August, the rice reaps and is harvested by hand or by machine
Winnowing • The rice is thrown in the air and the straws blow away, while the rice grains fall to the ground and can be stored.
Countries that are cultivating rice • Southeast Asia • Southern China • Japan • North and South Korea • Eastern and Southern Korea • Nile Delta of Egypt • Areas of Southern Europe
The young rice plant is raised in a small seed bed, so it can receive intensive care and protection The field can be used to grow other thing according to the time taken to grow the rice. Increase of crop collected per unit area because the caring of the farm will be held intensively.
