  1. Propaganda Propaganda is the use of emotional and often illogical appeals to influence people to support a cause or buy a product. It is also commonly used to damage another person, organization, or cause.

  2. Slogan • A slogan is a short, catchy phrase used to promote a product, person, or idea.

  4. Exaggeration • Exaggeration is a propaganda technique in which the benefits or qualities of an item are overstated to give the consumer a good feeling about the product.

  5. Bandwagon • The bandwagon technique is a form of propaganda that tries to appeal to the consumer by talking about how many other people use and like a product.

  6. Card stacking • Card stacking is a propaganda technique in which only one side of the story is told, focusing on either all positive aspects or all negative aspects of a product or person.

  7. Testimonial • A testimonial is a propaganda technique that uses the quotes of a person who supports a product.

  8. False cause and effect • The false cause and effect technique is a form of propaganda that falsely claims that something caused or will cause something else to happen.

  9. Emotional appeal • Emotional appeals support claims by speaking to the feelings, fears, or desires of the audience.

  10. Repetition • Repetition is a propaganda technique in which a product name is repeated over and over again in hopes that the consumer will remember it.

  11. Transfer technique • The transfer technique is a form of propaganda in which the image or name of a famous person is used to encourage the consumer to connect a product with that person.

  12. Plain folks technique • The plain folks technique is a form of propaganda that claims that a product is either produced or used by ordinary people, and is therefore good and trustworthy.

  13. Endorsement • An endorsement is a statement by a person or organization that expresses support or approval of a certain product, person, or idea.

  14. False advertising • False advertising is a company’s use of untrue or exaggerated claims about its product.

  15. Name-calling • Name-calling is a propaganda technique in which negative claims are made about a person or product.
