PROPAGANDA THE GRET WAR IN CANADA
PROPAGANDA • Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. • In WWI, governments all over the world used propaganda to encourage its citizen to support the war
Tricks of Propaganda • Use Peer Pressure- claim that “everybody is joining the movement” so why not you? • Use important Sounding Speech- like “the people,” “Democracy,” or “Freedom”- big words make the message sound more appealing • Dehumanize the Enemy - words like “Jap,” “Hun,” “Commie”- easier to hate someone when they are a monster, not a person
Tricks of Propaganda Part 2 • Be Biased- only give your side of the story • Prey on Emotions- make people feel guilty, afraid, proud etc • Manipulate the Truth- lie, just make it sound believable • Know your audience- design your message for you audience- e.g. hot girls in beer commercials • Command Attention- use powerful images that shock and disturb • Spread the word- repeat the message again and again- the easiest way to make someone believe something is to repeat it
