  1. Welcome to math class Mrs. Politte-Downs And so we begin!

  2. First thing to do today in math class • Find your assigned seat on seating chart. • Using the 3 x 5 card that you received, print your first and last name neatly on the lined side. You will also write your student number for this class on the same side of the 3 x 5 card. Write your class period on the unlined side. Name (first and last) Assigned student number Class period (make this really large)

  3. Who am I • 10 years at Windsor – 10 years teaching • Computer software engineer • wrote code / managed departments • used assembler base 8 language • Wanted to work with kids • Love math

  4. BATHROOM PASS • 1 per quarter • Give pass to me – take Buffett pass • MATH HALL PASS • Business card – keep all year • Gets you through hall • Available for tutoring 7 a.m. each morning • This math hall pass does not excuse you from any assignments!

  5. procedures • Homework / practice work is done in your notebook – composition book. Entering class bell ringer immediately Furniture appropriate use – do NOT sit on desks shoes are never allowed on furniture

  6. F I S H • Be there – listen • Choose your attitude – decide how you will act and interact • Make their day – do something nice • Play – make learning fun

  7. book distribution • work on assignment Will be listening to music as you work. Assignment will be on the screen. when called come and get your book and give me your 3 x 5 card

  8. Classroom/Homework assignment number 1 • Assignment – Who Am I?   5 paragraphs • The first 2 paragraphs should include information about yourself  - family, what you like, what your plans for future are and what you did this summer – include how you used math. • The next 2 paragraphs tell what you know about math – be specific, what is easy for you, what you have a difficult time understanding – again be specific. What makes it easier for you to learn such as working with a partner, studying in class, time to get one on one help? Be as specific as possible. • The last paragraph will tell what you would do if you were a millionaire or a billionaire.  (Songs will be playing while you write.)
