jaguar • Of all the big cats in the wild jaguars remain the least studied by scientists. • This is mainly because they are very shy and they mostly do all of there hunting at night when no one can see them. • Photographers very rarely get a photo of one of these big cats. • Another reason that they are not seen vey much is because, they are an endangered species, there are very few of them still in existence.
Habitat • The jaguars habitat is found in the rainforest. • The are mainly located in India and the Amazon rainforest . • The jaguar lives in a wide variety of places among the world. • Some of these places are; deciduous forest, swamps , pampas grasslands and, the mountain scrubs. This is where they will live and hunt for food.
Eating Habits • The jaguar is a carnivorous animal which means it only eats meat. • It can eat the smallest to large animals. They can eat mice up to deer it will also on occasion eat an adult caiman(a form of a small alligator). • It will usually hunt at night when it can surprise prey from the trees. • When it has caught a meal it will drag it to a thicket or take it up a tree, from there it will then start eating from the neck, down to the midsection it will also eat the heart and lungs. • The daily food requirement for this animal is about 1.4 kilograms a day. • A good thing about jaguars is they will rarely attack humans.
Humans Hunt Jaguars • The main reason for the decline of the jaguar is poaching, these poachers will hunt them for one reason and that is there fur if they can get a hold of it they can make a lot of money. That is the reason why they are hunted. • Other than humans they are not hunted except for the occasional fight with another predator or jaguar.
Effect Of Extinction • If they were to go extinct there would probably be increase of prey. • This would lead to over population which would lead to a dying environment. • Effect of having jaguars • If the population increased it would keep prey levels down and there would not be over population. • It would also be good because the government would not have to protect them anymore.
Acts to help keep jaguars in existence • People around the world are coming together to protect jaguars. They pass laws stating that no one can kill or take way the habitat of the jaguar. • They also set up non-profit organizations to help raise money for this spectacular animal. • Zoos set up breeding programs for jaguars in captivity to help increase there numbers. Every new born jaguar is a success. • I chose the jaguar because I think it is an amazing animal it vey hard to find them in the wild.
