War Costs • Spent & Approved War-Spending - About $900 billion of US taxpayers' funds • Lost & Unaccounted for in Iraq - $9 billion of US taxpayers' money • Missing - $1 billion in tractor trailers, tank recovery vehicles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and other equipment and services provided to the Iraqi security forces. • Mismanaged & Wasted in Iraq - $10 billion
New Government • Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki’s government was approved in 2010. • All of the major political parties and ethnic groups are participating for the first time in an Iraqi government.
deBa’athification • In May of 2010 an agreement was reached to end the de-Baathification campaign. • The disqualification of hundreds of candidates threw politics into turmoil before the March 7 parliamentary elections. • “There will be no more.” President JalalTalabani stated.
Disbanding The Iraqi Military • Noted by many as one of the United States’ biggest mistakes in the war. • President George W. Bush blamed L. Paul Bremer for the decision to disband the Iraqi military. • Bremer claims that he was only taking orders from the then secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld.
