1. Ms. Peterson’s January Newsletter Classroom news • Dear 2nd Grade Families, 1/6/14 • I hope you had a great holiday break! We are going to be very busy and working hard in second grade. This week and next week, students will be taking their winter AIMSweb benchmarks in math and literacy. This will help show the progress they have made so far this year. Please encourage and motivate them at home to try their best! Here’s what else is coming up: • Math- • Continuation of our math warm up (counting, place value, rounding, cluster cards, and word problems). • Near Doubles- If 10+10=20, then 10+11 is 1 more (21). We will also be doing Near Doubles Subtraction. • Reading- • Continuation of Author’s Purpose • Beginning Non-Fictional Text Features- bold words, headings, titles, glossaries, captions, illustrations). • Weekly poems and new spelling principles. • Writing- • Learning about New Year’s resolutions, and working on a “Winter is” poem. • Social Studies- • Continuation of our Economics Unit.
