Elections ~ Nov 19th • President-elect • Vice president • Treasurer • Public Relations • Secretary • All members of the Exec Committee participate in making financial decisions and determining the direction of the chapter
Structure of ASP • 6 elected officers – turn over with the calendar year (elected in Nov….transition til finals) filled by P1’s and P2’s • Committee chairs – turn over with the school year (appointed in April....transition til finals) filled by P2’s
President Elect ~ • 2 year term • Must be from the class of 2012 • Attend all exec board meetings • Learn the structure and operations of APhA-ASP • Attend Summer Leadership Institute in Washington DC • Run Patient Counseling Competition • Shadow the president and assume all responsibilities as delegated by the president

Vice President ~ • Oversees all the committees • Representative to PHPSG • Presides over executive and general meetings in the absence of the president • Assume other responsibilities as delegated by the president
Treasurer~ • Responsible for food for all general and executive board meetings • Files taxes in April in conjunction with the president • Manages the checking account, CD etc. • Responsible for making the budget and reimbursing officers and committee chairs for ASP-related expenses
Public Relations~ • Responsible for planning the activities for American Pharmacists Month in October • Helps with the logistics of registration for MRM and the APhA Annual Meeting and Expo (send emails, produce newsletter/brochure, etc.) • Explore ways to promote the profession of pharmacy through the media (print, television, radio, other advertising)
Secretary ~ • Take minutes at executive and general meetings • Produce the ASP chapter newsletter once a month • Responsible for publicizing the general meetings
Nominations due Tues Nov 18th @ 5:00pm • Nominate yourself or someone else by emailing PaulMorales@creighton.edu • Nominations will be accepted from the floor on election day if you wish to run for an additional position • Candidates will have 30 seconds to address the audience prior to voting on Nov 19th
Region V Proposals • 25 proposals submitted for discussion at Region 5 MRM • Discussion and voting this weekend…those that pass will be evaluated by the Regional Delegates at the APhA January Business Meeting for discussion in San Antonio
APhA-ASP supports the implementation of additional hours of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) during the first three years of pharmacy education as outlined by the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education.
APhA-ASP encourages pharmacies that provide patient care services to have a documentation system that is linked with the patient’s prescription history in order to optimize pharmaceutical care and track interventions.
APhA-ASP encourages pharmacies to become more environmentally and energy conscious, including but not limited to, their use of alternative energies, as well as recycling programs for paper and other pharmacy waste.
APhA-ASP supports the use of genetic testing when appropriate to assist pharmacists and providers choice of the safest and most efficacious medications and doses for their patients.
APhA-ASP encourages patients to have a “pharmacy home.” APhA-ASP encourages the concept of a pharmacy home to improve patient care.
APhA-ASP encourages proper authorities to legally mandate that all prescriptions for controlled substances have a valid indication provided on the prescription.
APhA-ASP supports the nation-wide implementation of mandatory counseling for all new prescriptions in an outpatient setting
APhA-ASP supports programs such as “no free lunch” to decrease drug costs and potential or perceived bias to the selection of drug therapy by health care professionals.
APhA-ASP encourages all pharmacies to persuade patients to refrain from cell phone use while picking up medications. This includes, but is not limited to, posted signs and verbal notifications.
