  2. Content Outline Definition of the problem Recognition of the need The information gathered Brainstorming of ideas Design Matrix Analysis of ideas Specifications Visualization of idea Summary

  3. What’s the problem? Nicaraguan’s have no reliable source of energy to power their telecom base station

  4. What’s the need? The need is for a green power source which can produce the 1.2 kW necessary to power the telecom base station Must be secure and easily maintained

  5. Brainstorming Solar Wind Geothermal Micro hydro Generator

  6. Design Matrix Total +5 -4 -4 0 +1

  7. Analysis of Ideas Solar Map Wind Map

  8. Specifications of Solar Panels Six 225 w, 20 V solar panels connected in series which will satisfy the needs of the telecom base station 5.5 ft x 3.5 ft 50 lbs each Arranged in a rectangular pattern on the roof of the structure

  9. More Info About Panels Panel Angle = latitude Approximate latitude of Nicaragua is 12.5 degrees Solar panels should be placed at a panel angle of 12.5 degrees Total square feet needed for solar panels – 120 ft2

  10. Diagram of Electricity Flow

  11. Visualization of Hut

  12. Summary Our design idea is to use multiple solar panels placed on the roof of the structure in order to power the telecommunications equipment This will be used in conjunction with an AC generator backup, which can be used as a power source if the batteries become too low
