INTRODUCCIÓN • El PACIENTE GERIÁTRICO es aquel que cumple tres o más de los siguientes criterios: • Edad superior a 75 años. • Problemática social en relación con su estado de salud. • Patología mental acompañante o predominante. • Proceso principal de carácter incapacitante. • Pluripatología relevante.

LA VALORACIÓN GERIÁTRICA INTEGRAL (VGI) “Proceso diagnóstico dinámico y estructurado que permite detectar y cuantificar los problemas, necesidades y capacidades del anciano en las esferas clínica, funcional, mental y social. Pretende elaborar una estrategia interdisciplinar de intervención, tratamiento y seguimiento a largo plazo, para optimizar los recursos y lograr el mayor grado de independencia y, en definitiva, calidad de vida del anciano”.
