The Endangered Species Art Trail in Woomelang showcases and interprets the Mallee's endangered species through a series of eight artworks. This project aims to educate, promote tourism, and celebrate the cultural value of the region's threatened wildlife.

  3. The Victorian Mallee is significant for its unique flora and fauna, particularly its reptile and bird species. A significant number of these species are threatened at either a state or federal level. Approximately 55 species of flora and 91 species of fauna in the Mallee region are listed as threatened under the Flora and Fauna Act 1998, Victoria's central piece of legislation for the conservation of threatened species and communities. Woomelang: in the Mallee region of Victoria, Australia, is in the Shire of Yarriambiack local government area and on the Sunraysia Highway, 359 kilometres (223 mi) north-west of the state capital, Melbourne, 183 kilometres (114 mi) south-east of Mildura and 154 kilometres (96 mi) north of Horsham. At the 2011 census, Woomelang and the surrounding area had a population of 191.[1] As with most towns in the Mallee region, the main industry is dry-land agriculture and woolgrowing. The population has been slowly declining, from 290 at the 1981 census to 211 people in 2001, 195 in 2006,[2] and 191 in 2011.[1] From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. About the Mallee:

To enhance our shared space, Combine Corner in the the centre of town, with the aim of encouraging tourism to Woomelang.We have seen the positive effects of the recent Silo Art Trail project and the much-needed tourism it has brought to the region, and we wish to build upon this with a series of eight key artworks featuring the region's most threatened & endangered animals. We expect a range of benefits from this project: Education: Many locals would be very interested to discover more about threatened species in our area, as would visitors; armed with information, we can perhaps join together to work towards protecting these species. Tourism: Woomelang is growing our cultural visiting-spots, with a range of interesting places to visit: the Tough as Iron artwork trail at Cronomby Tanks, our threatened species snake on the wall of the Store. We hope that with the addition of the Endangered Species art walk in Combine Corner, we will provide one more excellent reason to visit Woomelang. Cultural value: Our local species are an important part of the Mallee identity, and help us to identify with our locality, and to interpret it to visitors. We know that this brings something special and enriching to the visitor experience. Project aim:

  5. Art Installation & Location: Installation: We aim to install eight individual artworks, with each piece around 2x2 meters in size. The artworks will be produced across a series of custom-built boards that will then be installed on location in Woomelang. Location: Combine Corner precinct, located next to the General Store; Shelter, toilet facilities, garden, shade & seating sections for visitors are already in place at the corner of Gloucester & Brook Streets on the Sunraysia Highway in Woomelang 3485.
