Kris Anderson 28-Mar-2011 Special Report NuMI Target Updates Status Update Target Hall • Target module ready to accept new target • General target hall working ongoing (e.g., dehumidifier maintenance) NT-06 Preparation for Beamline Installation • Successful downstream water turnaround retrofit of NT-06 • QA of weldments revealed excellent results (X-ray shows no internal defects and target pressure tested to 150 psig for 40 minutes with no pressure loss) • Reassembled target core in canister • Completed survey- all features fall within specified tolerance (~ ¼ mm) • Target will be installed and surveyed in carrier frame assembly this week • Expect to start installation in NuMI Target Hall Monday 4/4 III. Reclaim NT-02 as a contingency spare • ALARA plan in preparation to remedyslipping couplers and install a new DS screw drive bearing block • Efforts should re-start later this week • May require ~2 weeks of effort to reclaim z-drive motion (if possible)

Special Report NuMI Target Updates NT-07 and NT-08 Approach NT-07 and NT-08 Current proposal is IHEP will send finished target core with the exception of the downstream water turnaround and we will install our design and finish target assembly here NT-07 and NT-08 are expected from IHEP 9/30/2011

Key Dates Special Report NuMI Target Updates Estimated Key Dates-Nominal Scenario NT-06 Installation • NT-06 Target/Baffle Carrier final outfitting at MI-8, survey, and Q/A this week 3/28 thru 4/2 • Installation of NT-06 intobeamlinechase 4/4 – 4/9 • Estimate for beam ~12:00 on Sunday 4/10 II. NT-02 Path (Contingency Target) • NT-02 is leak tight but status of z-drive reclamation is still TBD • Likely to take about 2 weeks of effort to define and implement procedure to assess and return z-drive mechanism to operational status; Will resume work to recover z-drive later this week pending approval of ALARA plan
