  8. The Math Question… • Grade 8 & 9 • Math 8 & 9 Challenge * • Math 8 & 9 • Core Math 8 & 9 * Grade 10 • Math 10 Challenge • Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 (Regular Math) • Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10 *Requires referral by present subject teacher and parent/guardian permission.

  9. Implications of Math • Any Math 11 course will graduate a student from high school with a Dogwood certificate. • Post-secondary math requirements will vary. Please be informed, and keep viable options open. • For now, keep your child in the highest level of math they will be successful at. • This time next year, students will need to pick a stream of math to continue on in. Students in Math 9 Core will automatically be placed in Math 10 AWP. (There is a Math 10 Provincial exam. Students should be in the appropriate stream.)

  10. What about a Language? You do not need a language to graduate from high School BUT…

  11. Some post-secondary institutions do require … UBC KWANTLEN Language 11 for all faculties Language 11 for degree programs No language requirement SFU UVIC UNBC TR.WEST. THOMP. R BCIT COLLEGES Introductory language 11 for all faculties

  12. Language Options • French 8 – 12 • Spanish 9 - 12 • Introductory Spanish 11 (can be taken in Grade 10) to Spanish 11 *all courses will be offered based on enrollment

Language Challenge Exams For those students with a background in: Mandarin Spanish French Japanese Punjabi Korean German you may apply to write a challenge exam to earn Language 11 and 12 credits. *Some post-secondary institutions (ie.UBC) are no longer accepting Challenge exam scores for GPA, but will accept the course as the language 11 requirement for admission.

External Credits Students may earn credits toward graduation through training programs outside of school: • Dance (Royal Academy of Dance) • Music (Royal Conservatory of Music) • Sports (Provincial or National team level) • Lifesaving (Bronze Cross, NLS, Instructor) • Cadets (National Defense Cadet Certification) • Driver Ed (ICBC accredited program) *Students are asked to bring documentation as proof of credit

  18. Remedial Summer School • Must be recommended by teacher • Must repeat if you don’t pass • 4 weeks (month of July) • Delta Secondary or North Delta (depends on enrollment) • Miss 3 classes = no credit *Full-Credit Summer School courses are not available until Gr. 10

  19. When Can We Get Started? • Parent Connect and Student Connect are open starting February 14 and will remain open until March 3rd. • Courses are NOT first come first serve. • Choose wisely now! Changes may not be possible later.
