  1. Facing the Giants Alex Smith 4/30/13 7th Period Alex Smith 4/30/13 7th Period

  2. Perseverance • Perseverance- the steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement • In the second grade, my class did a 200 Book Club challenge. Even though I enjoyed reading, it was very difficult to read that many books in one month at that age. I wanted to give up after awhile, but my mom encouraged me to keep reading. I did read all 200 books and was happy with my reward and glad I kept reading.

  3. Kindness • Kindness- having good or benevolent nature or disposition, as a person • Everyone likes to receive random acts of kindness, so why not give one as well? Sometimes I make my sister’s bed for her just because. She always appreciates it.

  4. Giving your BEST! The value of giving your best in everything you do is not always in some reward that we expect to get out of it. When we do our very best, we have peace of mind. We don’t have to worry about the grade you will make on a project or if your boss liked your speech. You can trust that your best will pass with ease. If you take pride in your work then things will easier because you will want to do your very best. I personally try to do my very best in all of my school projects, extracurricular activities, and to make all A’s. If I try my hardest now, I will be more successful in the future and have more career opportunities. People respect people who respect their work.

  5. “Prepare for Rain” To ‘prepare for rain while in the desert’ means that even in a bad situation, or a bad place, you should prepare for the best. If you are in the desert and you are waiting for rain, you need to be ready to accept it. The rain doesn’t stay long, so if you are not waiting on it, you will miss it. If you are in a bad place in your life but you don’t make any effort or plan to ever get out, then when the chance comes to get out, you might miss it.

  6. Attempting the Impossible I am willing to face the impossible in the music I prepare to play. I may think it is too hard or too fast, but I am always willing to attempt it. If you work long enough and hard enough, really nothing is impossible.

  7. Defeat is NOT an Option Persevering through a situation even though you feel defeated or it seems impossible can be difficult. I know that it is very hard to keep going toward something when you don’t want to. Your mindset and attitude can entirely change a situation. Even if you do lose or don’t accomplish your goal, if you have a good attitude toward it and are satisfied with your work, you will never be defeated.

  8. Criticism or Encouragement? In my opinion, you should never criticize someone for something they have worked on or done. I try to use encouragement whenever I can and never do anything on purpose to hurt someone. Criticism can hurt people more than you think, but encouragement can also help them so much as well.

  9. Today’s Decisions The decisions you make today are so important to your future. You learn from your mistakes, but the mistake’s consequences may not completely go away. You can also benefit in the future from what you do today , though. For example, You decide to study hard now. You get accepted to a good college, get a good job, and have a plentiful life. Or, you don’t study now and start failing. You have trouble getting in to any college, drop out for flunking your courses, and have difficulty finding a job good enough to support yourself. Your decisions today can effect so much more of your future than this though.
