Finding New solutions – NHS and the workplace • Three areas chosen • North East • South West and • South East (£0.500m)
Finding new solutions – Bike to Work SE • 17 PCTs in the South East • Expression of interest 14 out of 17 replied • Six members on the scoring panel reduced 14 to 9 • 9 PCTs and local authorities invited to present to a panel of four • 6 areas to mark with 5 subsections each • End result (all of us had the same top 5)

Workplace Cycle Challenge • A Simple Competition: • Local Businesses compete • *Cycle for just 10 minutes! • Have fun & Win Prizes! • Prizes for % participation • Dedicated Website • Online registration & participation • *A proven Marketing Methodology addressing: • Self Perception: • Change peoples perception about Cycling by providing a positive cycling experience! • Self Efficacy: • People are more likely to take on a cycle commute if they believe they can achieve it!

Measurable Change • What is typically experienced 3 Months post Challenge: • >80% of ‘non-cyclists’ intend to cycle more • >30% of former 'non-cyclists' now cycle at least once a week • >20% now cycle 2-3 days or more each week • >20% now cycle to work at least once a week • >15% now cycle regularly each week to work
Sustainability • Post Challenge, a local Workplace Cycling Community has been established. • Simple and low cost interventions can be applied to target groups to invoke additional cycle trips Example website:
