Situación Epidemiológica • Esta enfermedad tiene distribución mundial, pero su incidencia ha disminuido por las Campañas de vacunación a partir de la década del 70 con la incorporación de la vacuna DPT. • Sin embargo en 1978 se presentaron aproximadamente 6.800 casos y en el 2000,11 casos. • Hubo un brote importante en Ecuador en 1994 con 400 casos. • En Colombia en el 2000 con 12 casos • En Paraguay en 2002 con 38 casos • 2010 Bolivia 2 casos confirmados, 20 sospechosos.
