HISTORIA • Primera catedral gótica de España, y fue declarada Monumento Histórico Artístico el 31 de octubre de 1914. • Fecha de iniciación desconocida, pero hay 2 teorías: • Alvar García, año 1091, la construye sobre los restos de la Iglesia de San Salvador, financiada por Alfonso VI de León • Fruchel, siglo XII, sólo construye la cabecera de la catedral, lo demás se remata durante los siglos XIII y XIV • Se finaliza la obra en 1475. • Fue costeada por Alfonso VII en 1130, por Inocencio II en 1139 y por Alfonso VIII en 1142 EXPLICACIÓN

CONSTRUCCIÓN • En el siglo XII se construye la cabecera de la iglesia, se inicia en estilo románico • En el siglo XIII se construye el cuerpo de las torres y las naves • En el siglo XIV se modifica a estilo gótico, se prosigue con las torres aunque se deja una sin acabar. También el claustro, las bóvedas y los arbotantes • En el Siglo XV se acaba la catedral añadiéndole un reloj mecánico (Juan Guas). También se le añade un coro y trascoro • En el siglo XVI se construye el Altar Mayor • Actualmente la catedral se conserva sucia. Las ventanas han sido dotadas por una tela mecánica y se han sustituido los badajos de las campanas por electromazos
