Step 2: Establishing *Goals (who and by how much?) • Increase 1st year retention rate of first-time UGs from 68% (Fall 2016 cohort) to 80% (Fall 2024 cohort) • Increase 1st year retention rate of transfer students from 86% (Fall 2016 cohort) to 91% (Fall 2024 cohort) • Increase 2nd year retention rate of first-time UGs from 58% (Fall 2015 cohort) to 70% (Fall 2023 cohort) Full implementation of tactics in 2019-2020 will set the initial benchmarks and, allowing for tactical adjustments, indicate if the trend line will reach our goals by the indicated target dates above.

STRONGEST YEAR-2 RETENTION PREDICTORS FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS WHO PLANNED ON TRANSFERRING In Comparison (n=3,426) • Cumulative 1 year GPA • Grant total • Loan total • Commitment to the Institution • Financial Factor Score • EOP • On-campus living: social aspects • Time management • RAMP • CNRS major (-) • EOP/RAMP combo Low/Moderate Commitment to HSU (n=177) High Commitment to HSU (n=196) *There were high levels of correlation between financial aid variables and low-income, first-generation status. Financial aid variables explained a higher percentage of the variance, so low-income and first-generation were removed from the models.

NEXT STEPS in the Retention Council Process Step 4: Campus input & refinement • March 27 - Retention council report reviewed by SSA • April 9th - Drafts of the reports become available online for review and comment • April 9-27 - Campus roll-out & feedback period • VPSA Council, Council of Chairs, University Senate, Campus Open Forum, others • April 27 - Feedback period closes • May 10 - new draft of reports posted (assuming feedback does not (or sooner) indicate a need for significant rewrites
