Multimedia in Presentations By: John Grammes
Uses of media • All types of multimedia are used to catch the interest of the audience • All multimedia give a visual to what they are hearing. • An entertained Audience is a happy and more attentive audience.
Text media • Uses text to convey understanding about a topic. And by following along with the words on the presentation, the more likely the audience will understand the topic being addressed • For example: When you are taking notes in class, it helps when the professor writes what ever he says on the board. So the understanding will go through two forms of media, audio and text.
Audio Media • Audio in presentations has the purpose to keep the audience involved and awake through the use of sound • For example: If a Presentation contained audio from a famous music artist like Nightwish, it would receive more attention than a presentation of the same topic with no music
Video Media • Keeps the audience interested about the topic by actually showing them the process the presentation is talking about. • Example: Lets say there is a presentation on how to tie shoes, and the instructions are only in text form. It would be extremely difficult to be able to comprehend the process. But if there was an instructional video on tying your shoes ,then you will be able to understand through the example.
Picture media • Picture media, much like video, gives you a visual to look at while a presentation is happening. This makes the audience have a visual to go along with the words • Example: If there was a presentation about the devastation of the rain forest, the presenter would want to have enough pictures to go along with it to convey sympathy.
How many is too many? • How many multimedia types are too much in one presentation? • None • By utilizing all of the types of media in a presentation it will entertain the audience while informing them informed about a topic
Examples • On the next few slides will be an example of a presentation utilizing the different aspects of multimedia. • You tell me which one is the better one?
Presentation example, With only minimum text The rainforest is under constant attack by loggers. These attacks not only damage the ecosystem. But are devastating to the plant and animal population.
Same example, with text and pictures • The Rainforest is under constant attack • Loggers are the #1 threat to the rainforest. • By all the constant deforestation the animal and plant life is diminishing.
