1st, 3rd, & 5th block- From yesterday After watching/reading the short version of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, answer the following on p. 69 of your day book (copy the questions): 1. How does it relate to your own life? 2. How does it relate to Anne Frank’s story? 3. How does it reflect on the world?

Grammar:Compound Subjects & Agreement- Under warm-up Subjects joined by “and” usually take a plural verb Most compound subjects joined by “and” name more than one person or thing and take plural verbs Example: Antonia Brico and Sarah Caldwell are famous conductors. More than one person are listed as conductors.
Choosing Verbs That Agree in Number with Compound Subjects (just write the answers) Identify the compound subject in the sentence below as singular or plural. Then choose the form of the verb that agrees with the compound subject. 1. Cleo and Pam (is, are) here. 2. March and April (is, are) windy months. 3. The mechanic and shop owner (is, are) preparing his estimate. 4. The Bulldogs and the Pirates (plays, play) in the finals today. 5. Red beans and rice (is, are) my favorite Cajun dish.

Note Singular subjects joined by “or” or “nor” take a singular verb. Plural subjects joined by “or’ or “nor” take a plural verb Example: A pen or a pencil is needed for this test.
Last one: Continued… When a singular subject and a plural subject are joined by “or” or “nor”, the verb agrees with the subject nearer the verb Example: Neither the manager nor the employees want to close the store early.
