  2. Inexplicable • (adj) incapable of being accounted for • Synonyms: unexplainable, incomprehensible, enigmatic • Example: The creation of the Earth is inexplicable

  3. Noncommittal • (adj) not committing oneself • Synonyms: indefinite, vague, equivocal • Example: The senator gave us a noncommittal answer

  4. Proboscis • (n) a nose • Synonyms: trunk, snout, beak • Example: The proboscis of the elephant grabbed the peanut

  5. Quixotic • (adj) extravagantly chivalrous • Synonyms: fanciful, fantastic, imaginary • Example: She is a quixotic mixture of illusion and reality

  6. Surmise • (v) to infer without strong evidence • Synonyms: conjecture, guess, suspect • Example: Man lives in a world of surmise, of mystery, of uncertainties.

  7. Anecdote • (n) a short account of an event • Synonyms: story, yarn, reminiscence • Example: She seems to always have an anecdote about something

  8. Climactic • (adj) pertaining to a climax • Synonyms: acute, critical, peak • Example: It was the climactic scene of the play

  13. Hypochondriac • (adj) an excessive preoccupation with worrying about one’s health • Synonyms: neurotic, imagining, valetudinarian • Example: Hypochondriac feelings overwhelmed her

  14. Prodigy • (n) a person having extraordinary talent • Synonyms: marvel, natural, phenomenon • Example: He was a prodigy on the piano

  15. Staunch • (v) to be unwavering • Synonyms: steadfast, unswerving, halt • Example: He was a staunch Republican

  16. Stigma • (n) a mark of disgrace • Synonyms: stain, reproach, blemish • Example: He had the stigma of being a cheater
