  1. Welcome Freshmen Cobras! Today you will need • A pen/pencil • 2 sheets of lined paper Bell Work “Education is never about achieving perfection, but rather about meeting challenges.” What does this mean to you? How might it apply to this class?

Getting to Know You Directions: On a piece of paper, please write each question and your answer. • How old are you? • What schools have you previously attended? • What are your parent’s occupations? • Do you have siblings? If so, how many? • What science class did you take in 8th grade? • What is your favorite school subject? • What is your favorite hobby or interest? • If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be? • What three things can I as the teacher do to help you become more successful as a student in this class? • What three things can you do as a student to help yourself be more successful this year? • What do you want to do after high school? • What would your ideal job/career be?

  3. Getting to Know ME • I was born and raised in Fort Pierce. • I graduated from Lincoln Park Academy. • I have a Master’s degree in Marine Biology and Secondary Education. • I have traveled to French Polynesia and New Zealand. • I own a Great Dane named Max.

About this class • Text: Pearson Physical Science: Concepts in Action • Please hand in your signed Parent/Guardian Letter. • All Students; Must have class supplies ASAP. • Reminder – Parent/Guardian signed letters due- 10 points! P. 1, 3, 5, 7- due by Friday. P. 2, 4, 6- due by Monday (prefer Thursday)

  5. Class Supplies • 4 Spiral Notebooks • Calculator • Colored Pencils • Highlighter • Pencils & pens

  6. Classroom Expectations • Be courteous and respectful to your teacher and classmates. • Come to class on-time and prepared to participate. • Follow ALL safety rules and procedures. • Uphold high standards of effort and achievement. • Bring all learning materials with you.

  7. Negative Consequences • Verbal Warning • Time out with a reflection sheet & a call home. • Sent out of class for the entire class period & a call home. • Referral & a call home.

  8. Positive Consequences • Individual Reward • Each nine weeks, the student with the highest average in his or her class will be awarded a prize for their success. A student may only win once. Set high standards and strive to attain them!

  9. Positive Consequences • Group/Class Reward • Ten minutes of free time.

  10. Absences • Homework & Class work must be made up. • Schedule time to make-up quizzes, tests, and labs (not all labs have to be made up). • Assignments will be placed in make-up folder and posted on website. • You will be allowed one day for each day you were absent to make up work.

  11. Entering the Classroom • Backpacks on floor. • You will usually need: Pencils/Pens, calculator & Notebook • Sharpen pencils prior to bell. • Instructions will be on the overhead. • Start bell work immediately. • You are considered Tardy if you are not seated by the time the bell rings.

Exiting the Classroom • I will dismiss you from class/not the bell. • Once I have dismissed you: • Stack your Textbooks (back of the room) • Return class materials • Look around your area for any trash. • Collect your book bag. • Dispose of trash as you exit class. 7th & 6th Periods Only – Place chairs on tables.

  15. What do I do when…. • I need to sharpen my pencil? Do it before class starts. Ask permission. • Need to use the restroom or get a drink? Raise your hand to ask permission. • School Emergencies? Listen to announcements and follow all directions given explicitly.

  16. What do I do when…. • I complete my work early? Raise your hand and I will give you options. • There are visitors in the class? Be on your best behavior. Show cobra pride! • When there is a school wide announcement? Stop talking immediately and listen. • Ms. Capobianco gives my class instructions? Listen carefully and follow them when directed.
