4. TN Process of Development • Completed the 16 clusters and Programs of Study at the secondary level with business and industry partners, CTE directors, school counselors, math and science consultants, LEA representatives, and post -secondary partners

5. TN Process of Development • Completed post secondary transition programs with the TN Board of Regents • Completed occupational identification with assistance of Department of Labor & Workforce Development

6. Why is Tennessee moving to Career Clusters and Programs of Study? • National Effort – All States are involved www.careerclusters.org • The Perkins Act of 2006 requires every LEA to offer at least one state approved program of study within the career clusters in order to receive Perkins funding

7. Why is Tennessee moving to Career Clusters and Programs of Study? • Course sequencing for technical skill assessments • To assist students/counselors with high school, post-secondary, and career planning (4-6 year plans)

13. So where do Career Clusters fit in? What are they? • Career Clusters are groupings of similar industries. • These groupings are used as an organizing tool for: • Curriculum Design • Instructional + Guidance Model • Sequencing for 4-6 year plans • Seamless Transition to post-secondary or occupations

14. Implementation of Programs of Study organized around the 16 clusters provides: • 71 state approved programs of study within the 16 clusters • Sequence of courses that end in credentials such as industry certification, associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or higher credential

15. Implementation of Programs of Study organized around the 16 clusters provides: • Opportunities for “all” students • A “place” for all career goals & interests • Course sequencing for student career planning and technical skill attainment

20. Industry Certification • Provide student industry certification opportunities. • The Division of CTE is moving toward teacher industry certification in all program areas where available

21. GOLD Standard The final evaluation of Perkins IV is the Gold Standard defined as: • Student Industry Certification • End of Program Assessment (3 earned credits or more in a program area) • Third-Party Technical Skills Assessment
