Your Entitlements • A safe healthy & supportive environment • A H&S induction at College and work placement • Access to H&S information from College and work placement • Information on supervision arrangements • Access to free PPE (where required) • Information on restricted areas, plant or tasks • Appropriate H&S training
Reporting Accidents & Ill-health • All accidents/incidents and ill-health should be reported to your supervisor and tutor. • For investigation to establish the cause. • To identify trends and learn lessons.
First Aid • Identify who your first - aiders are at work. • If an accident occurs it will save time if you know where to locate your nearest first - aider.

Emergency Control Measures • Smoke detectors • Alarms/ • Fire fighting • Systems • Training • Evacuation

Your Responsibilities • Read fire action notices in each area to make yourself aware of the assembly points. • Make sure you are aware of fire exits, call points and where fire extinguishers are kept. • Take note of any health & safety information that is communicated to you.
Trips & Visits • Approval system • Approved coach companies • Code of conduct • Emergency contacts
Safety Signs • A blue sign is mandatory and means you must do what it says.
Safety Signs • A yellow sign is used to give warning of danger.
Safety Signs • A symbol surrounded by a red circle with red line is a prohibition notice.
Safety Signs • Green signs provide information.
New Build • New build site • Temporary road surfaces • Increased traffic movement • Heavy vehicles • Noise pollution
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • PPE should be used as a last resort, when all other control measures have been considered. • Employees must wear PPE where instructed and trained to do so. • Take care of your PPE, store safely.
Tour of the College • Spot and record the safety signs • Identify the nearest emergency exit route • Identify the types of fire extinguisher • Identify the assembly points • Identify the first aider lists
