Napoleon’s Early Struggles • Napoleon is remember for many things: • He was short • He was Corsican • He was a great military leader • He was from a lower Aristocratic Family • However, these things were also the cause of the bullying that he suffered as a young man in Military School. • Napoleon would uses these years of struggle as inspiration to reach great heights

  3. Napoleon and the French Revolution • After Graduating from Military school Napoleon chooses to join the Army of the New Republic of France and joins the wars against Austria and Prussia • Eventually Napoleon will come back to Paris and become the savior of the Revolution when he defends the national Assemble against a Royalist Riot

  4. The Fame of Napoleon • Napoleon will become the most popular general in all of France and will eventually become the leader of the military under the Directory • However, Napoleon does not trust the Directory which leads him to a military Coup d’Etat

Napoleon’s Coup d’Etat • Using military forces loyal to him Napoleon will depose the corrupt Directory and declare himself the First Consul of France • Essential Napoleon has not become the dictator of France • Later Napoleon will secure his position by being elected First Consul in a national vote

Napoleon Reforms France • Napoleon was a revolution supporter and therefore kept many of the popular ideas of the revolution • The Napoleonic Code will bring a new system of law to France • The Lycee will bring education to the masses • And Finally Napoleon will fix the economic problems that had plague France for centuries

The Congress of Vienna and The Reconstruction of Europe • After the exile of Napoleon and the end of War in Europe the great nations of Europe met at Vienna to Create a Long Lasting Peace • The Congress Created: • Containment of France • Weakening France • Achieve a Balance of Power • Legitimacy of Government
