  2. Our Current UOI Central Idea Many products go through a process of transformation before used by society. Concepts: Change, connection, causation Related Concepts: Process, measurement, transformation, distribution Lines of Inquiry: ·         The transformation that products undergo before distribution ·         Ways products are changed to meet the needs of society ·         Changes in measurement to products to meet the needs of society The Transdisciplinary Theme that EY 1 will work on this unit is “How We Organize Ourselves”. The students will learn what a product is and they will use their thinking skills to identify what a product can be made from. They will also identify the process of a product go through and the distribution process from factory to consumers. Furthermore, they will recognize a variety of products and find the reasons why a product is made as it is. Then they will make connection on how products are changed to meet the needs of society.

  3. Mathematics To support the concept of connection in this unit, the students are going to learn classifying objects into given categories. They will also learn to represent addition and subtraction using objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds, acting out situations, verbal explanation, expression, or equation and those activities will be supporting the concept of causation. The students will perform addition and subtraction within 10, they are going to be introduced to the symbols of +, -, and =.

  4. Language Art In this unit, students will retell story to peers or teachers as part of their speaking and listening strands. They will also have sequencing story activity as the support to build the concept of connection. In reading, they will learn to read books with one or two words on each page, visualize, get the meaning of the words read and read words with 1 to 3 syllables with focus on the pronunciation. Visualizing is a strategy to comprehend a text by visualizing the text into pictures. Students will also learn to write simple words to develop their writing ability.

  5. Music To support the concepts of connection and process the students will learn to recognize sound notation (do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si) and play untuned percussion such as jembe, maracas, triangle, and castanet. • Physical Education • EY 1 students will explore more athletics games, such as high jump, long jump, sprint, and hammer throw which will be supporting the concepts of connection and causation. They will also try various teamwork games.

Those activities will be supporting the concept of transformation and process
