  2. Skills We were proud of our British Empire. We had a very good sea power Portuguese Carracks off a Rocky Coast, c.1525, by an unidentified Flemish artist.

  4. slavery • Slaves were used aboard ship and for trading for goods. Slaves were kept all cramped up together in the same place. Slavery is a bad way to treat people and it must be stopped.

  5. The slave trade • Slaves were traded for tea, gold, opium, cotton, tobacco and sugar • Roughly three slaves were worth about 6 gold bars. • About 10,000,000 slaves • were imported from Africa.

  6. Opium War • Britain wanted tea from China. • China wanted silver this cost too much. • Britain insisted on using opium instead of silver to buy tea. • This led to a long war between China and England.

  7. Are we proud of the Empire or not? Things we are proud of Things we are not proud of We ruled one third of the world Britain brought Christianity to some countries Britain made lots of new discoveries and inventions How they treated slaves has been a bad thing…. Destroying other countries Causing wars such as the Opium War
