Gender norms • What is a possible explanation for the differences in behaviors aligned with gender? What psychological lens does your explanation fit under? • What is a schema? What does this have to do with gender norms? • Read “Male Answer Syndrome” article. • Explain the difference between the social learning theory & the gender schema theory.
Prenatal Development • Draw a flow chart for the following stages: zygote, embryo, & fetus • Explain what occurs at each stage of development • Write a few sentences explaining how teratogens can influence a human’s development.
Newborns • Rooting reflex: Touch the cheek of a newborn, and it will turn that way, open its mouth, and look for a nipple to suck on. • What body part do newborns focus on? What evidence do we have for this? • Neural networks are primarily attuned to what?
Infancy/Childhood • Maturation dictates what principle? • What is an example of nurture influencing maturation? (hint: supine position) • When do babies first begin to develop long-term memory?
Essential Question • How does physical development pave the way for psychological development? (maturation, neural networks, brain, etc.)
