Classic and New VD4 Introduction / General • The product name VD4 does not change • VD4 as a brand-name for a high quality VCB is well-accepted • The actual VD4 name is now defined to “classic VD4” • Availability of “new VD4” • Production started in February 2003 • Market introduction almost completed according to marketing plan • “One CB factory: The advantage of EoS in VCBs • DECMS: Excellence in vacuum, casting and embedding technology • ITNIE: Excellence in AT & Logistics and production engineering
Classic and New VD4 Introduction / General • An innovative concept for the maintenance • new VD4 has an actuator with a plug-in snapping-unit • just replacing the snapping-unit the c.breaker is basically a new c.breaker • new VD4 is the first MV circuit-breaker offering this feature • removal and mounting of the snapping-unit requires only 20 min. • the replacement operation is more reliable then any maintenance • operating life of the snapping unit up to 31.5 kA 17.5 kV (25 kA 24 kV) : • today: 10,000 operations already certified • today: 20,000 operations satisfactory carried-out • within 4Q 2003: 30,000 operations

Classic and New VD4 Operating mechanism / Characteristics (*) all new VD4 are Pehla certified O-0.3s-CO-3min-CO; VD4 17.20.32 and VD4 24.06.16 are already certified O-0.3s-CO-15s-CO (it is on going the activity for the certification of all new VD4 with the operation sequence O-0.3s-CO-15s-CO) (**) alternative solution with PR 521 and – MO3 already available
Classic and New VD4 Maintenance • 1) cycles under normal operating conditions, depending on breaker type, given regularly and conscientiously performed maintenance • replacementmay be carried out only by ABB personnel or trained and qualified customer personnel • M2 class means 10,000 operations without maintenance; the activity is on going for 30,000 operations without maintenance; 30,000 operations without maintenance will be available within 4Q 2003 • replacement after 10,000 operations (depending on circuit breaker type) : blocking lever, half shaft, crank; replacement after 20,000 operations (depending on circuit breaker type) : latch, complete supporting crank, spring, shaft, cam disk, return rotation blocking • replacement after 10,000 operations: actuator unit (snapping unit only; see next slide; snapping unit for 30,000 operations without maintenance will be available within 4Q 2003) replacement after 15,000 operations: shock absorber (the damper “shock absorber” for 30,000 operations will be available within 4Q 2003)

Classic and New VD4 Accessories / Standard • shunt releases are fundamentally wired with rectifiers (function as free-wheeling diodes if DC-supply) in order to obtain anti-pumping function; shunt releases are not mandatory with „new VD4“ in order to have anti-pumping function • mandatory for UniGear type ZS1, UniSafe, PowerBox; inclusive mechanical interlock (striker pin)if rated current is different from the panel • prevents the CB being racked into the panel with plug not inserted in the socket or no aux. Voltage; not available for motorized truck version
