  3. CONCEPT NOTE African continent has faced perennial crises especially internal conflicts. (civil war & violent internal conflicts) which have led to large scale displacement of people particularly women & children. Managing conflicts & rebuilding societies are no longer the exclusive preserve of men. Therefore, our organization decided to lead the vanguard for a peaceful continent.

  4. INTRODUCTION WAELE/ARCELFA was founded on 8th May 2004 and registered with Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission on 7th September 2004. The organization is structured to meet the yearnings of African women across the continent who believe that women should participate more fully in the economic decision making and governance of Africa. WAELE/ARCELFAis currently in 46 African Countries.

OUR MISSION • WAELE/ARCELFA will strive to unify various groups and provide a stronger voice towards meeting African Women’s aspirations. • WAELE/ARCELFA will work towards conflicts resolution & peace building in Africa because women & children bear the brunt of armed conflict everywhere. • Our long term objective is to have a strong, virile and committed organization that will continue to champion the sustainable emancipation of African women.

  6. OUR PEACE MISSION IN SUDAN • WAELE/ARCELFA held a peace meeting in Khartoum on Darfur issues from the 20th – 21st of October 2008. • WAELE/ARCELFAvisited President Omar Al-Bashir to discuss the Darfur issue as well as conflict raging between Republic of Sudan & Republic of Chad

OUR PEACE MISSION IN SUDAN • President Omar Al-Bashir promised to continue working towards peace between Sudan & Chad as well as in Darfur Region. • Following WAELE/ARCELFA’smeeting with President Omar Al-Bashir, Sudanese border with Chad & Sudanese Embassy in Ndjamena were re-opened. • Credit was given to WAELE/ARCELFA peace mission to Khartoum when the border was re - opened by the Sudanese Government.

  11. OUR PEACE MISSION IN SUDAN • WAELE/ARCELFA visited the IDP camp in Al – Fashir, Northern Darfur in May 2009; we organized peace meeting with the Darfur women. More than 3000 women participated in the peace meeting.

OUR PEACE MISSION IN TANZANIA • WAELE/ARCELFA visited His Excellency Mr JakayaMrishoKikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania in Dar-Es-Salaam on the 11th September 2006. • We commended him on the appointment of 16 female ministers & other women in top decision making positions. • We also discussed problems affecting African women and the way forward. The meeting was successful.

OUR PEACE MISSION IN SOUTH SUDAN • WAELE/ARCELFA visited South Sudan in October 2010 and met with the First Lady of South Sudan Her Excellency Mrs. Mary MayarditKiir and some Government officials. • We discussed peace in both Sudan & South Sudan after the historic January 2011, referendum which WAELE/ARCELFA was part of the monitoring team.

  24. WAELE/ARCELFA holds the view that if there’s peace, our children would not be used as child soldiers, rape would not be used as a weapon of war, and African women would also cease to be at the receiving end.

  25. Our goal is to continue making the necessary sacrifice for the creation of a peaceful continent where women & children will be safe & protected.We shall also continue to network with Governments & other NGOs to pursue vigorous implementation of long term & sustainable conflicts resolution in Africa.
