TESEL Faculty Training • Fulltime and adjunct faculty • Fulltime Faculty $500 stipend for time outside the designated work day; adjunct faculty $250 stipend • Book study: Mastering Academic Language: A Framework for Supporting Student Achievementby Debbie Zacarianof theCenter for English Language Education and Advancing Student Achievement • Fulltime faculty training: Thursday, March 7 from 9:30-3:30 and Wednesday, April 24 from 2:00-5:00 • Adjunct: April 6 from 9:00-3:00 and April 27, 9:00-3:00. Choose one training • Dr. Robin Bowen has given fulltime faculty permission to release classes day with an alternative assignment on March 7 and April 24 • Let Pam know by Monday.

Scope meeting tomorrow • Are your teacher prep faculty, including adjunct and clinical school based, knowledgeable of the content shifts in the MA 2011 Curriculum Frameworks in Mathematics and English Language Arts and Literacy specifically driven by MA’s adoption of the Common Core State Standards? How have you been able to confirm this understanding? • The2011 MA Curriculum Frameworks/CCSS require shifts not only in content but also in content pedagogy and pedagogy. To what extent does your faculty know about these changes in pedagogy? How have (methods) courses in your programs responded to those shifts in standards and pedagogy? To what extent, and in what ways, is your faculty modeling these pedagogical changes for your students?
Scope meeting tomorrow • The 2011 Mass Curriculum Frameworks and the new MA teacher evaluation system require that teachers document that their students are learning. How has this focus on assessment of P-12 student learning, including the use of data and multiple forms of assessment, been included in your program? • How might DHE and DESE support these program and course changes with resources, people, information or other means and avenues ?
Standard 2 • Evidence or documentation that unit leadership is discussing issues of fairness, accuracy, consistency, and the elimination of bias in its assessment system • Need volunteers to help with some curriculum mapping—one two-hour meeting
