Journal #22 Commentary Practice: Please 1) revise the citations and 2) add 2 sentences of commentary to analyze the quote and link it to the topic sentence/ thesis • Thesis: Despite the side effect of encouraging conformity through propaganda-like tactics, advertisements are a necessary part of our society because they keep us informed, enable us to find products we really do need, and promote equal access to information.
Commentary Practice: Please 1) revise the citations and 2) add 2 sentences of commentary to analyze the quote and link it to the topic sentence/ thesis • Topic Sentence: Not only that, but advertisements promote a freedom. • According to a book called Advertising: Information or Manipulation, “companies fund most of what you read in magazines and books, what you hear on the radio, and what you watch on television” (D).
Ratiocination: definition essay • With yellow highlighter, highlight all “they say” introductions; the signal phrases to whose thoughts are whose • With second highlighter, highlight any dull words: Get, is, very, really, nowadays, in conclusion, this shows that, things, stuff, a lot, many---eliminate and be more specific With colored pencils, underline any nice phrases and/or figurative language—add some of that
