  3. End of Course Exams For High School Students In 2007 the state legislature decided to eliminate the TAKS test and replace it with End of Course (EOC) exams. This change will take place gradually. Students entering ninth grade in the 2011-2012 school year will have to take End of Course (EOC) exams in the four fundamental areas. Students in the eighth grade this school year (2010-2011) will be the first to take End of Course (EOC) exams.

  4. Exámenes de Fin de Curso Para alumnos de preparatoria En el año 2007 la legislatura del estado acordó eliminar el examen de TAKS y reemplazar dicha evaluación con exámenes de fin de curso (EOC). Dicho cambio se implementara gradualmente. Los alumnos que ingresen a noveno grado en el año escolar 2011-2012 tendrán que presentar los exámenes de fin de cursos (EOC)en las cuatro áreas fundamentales. Los alumnos de octavo grado del presente año escolar (2010-2011) serán los primeros en presentar dichas evaluaciones.

  7. End of Course Exam - continuation Currently, high school students in 11th grade must pass the four fundamental areas of TAKS (English, Math, Science and Social Studies) in order to graduate. Beginning next school year,, 2011-2012, students entering ninth grade must take 12 End of Course (EOC) exams in the following courses: English I, English II, English III Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II World Geography, World History and U.S. History Biology, Chemistry, Physics The students score on the End of Course (EOC) exam will count as 15% of the final grade for that course.

Exámenes de Fín de Curso - continuación Actualmente, los alumnos de preparatoria de 11° grado tienen que aprobar las cuatro secciones del examen TAKS (Ingles, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales) para graduar. Empezando en el año escolar 2011-2012, los alumnos que ingresen al noveno grado deberán presentar 12 exámenes de fin de curso (EOC) en las siguientes materias: Ingles I, Ingles II, Ingles III Algebra I, Geometría, Algebra II Geografía, Historia Mundial e Historia de Estados Unidos Biología, Química, Física La puntuación del estudiante en el examen de fin de curso (EOC) tendrá un valor de 15% de la calificación final.

End of Course Exams - continuation The grade obtained on the End of Course (based on current information): First: It will count as 15% of the student’s final grade.* Second: It will count as a cumulative grade in each of the four fundamental areas (English, Math, Science and Social Studies).* For the final grade of a course, the first grade obtained on the End of Course (EOC) exam is the score that will be recorded. For the cumulative score in each of the four areas, the exam can be taken as many times as necessary in order to obtain a satisfactory score. This is a graduation requirement. The school district will offer support services to students (summer school, tutorials, etc.) to assist students who need to take an End of Course (EOC) exam more than once. *PendingLegislativeUpdates

Exámenes de Fin de Curso - continuación La calificación del examen de fin de cursos tendrá doble impacto (basado en información actual): Primero: En la calificación final del curso (15% del grado final)* Segundo: Como grado acumulativo para cada una de las áreas fundamentales (Ingles, Matemáticas, Ciencias, Estudios Sociales)* Para efecto de calificación final de curso, se tomara el grado obtenido en la primera toma de dicho examen. Para efecto de la calificación acumulada en cada área, el examen se podrá presentar las veces necesarias hasta que dicha calificación satisfactoria sea obtenida. Este es un requisito para graduación. El distrito escolar ofrecerá oportunidades de apoyo y preparación (cursos de verano, tutoriales, etc.) como asistencia para el alumno que tenga que presentar el examen más de una ves. *Pendiente a cambios legislativos

  11. Brownsville ISD is currently moving forward with an implementation plan that reflects this information. However, the state legislature is currently revisiting some of these testing standards and/or graduation requirements. As information becomes available, it will be communicated to parents and the community.

  14. En Secundaria…STAAR STATE OF TEXAS ASSESSMENT OF ACADEMIC READINESS EVALUACION DE PREPARACION ACADEMICA DEL ESTADO DE TEXAS

  15. STAAR Students in 3rd through 8th grades will take STAAR in the same areas that were previously tested by TAKS. In order to be promoted in 5th and 8th grades, the requirement will continue to be the same: Students must pass English and math exams in order to meet promotion criteria.

  17. The Difference…. THE PRIMARY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TAKS and EOC’s IS THAT EOC’s WILL HAVE GREATER RIGOR, DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY WITH THE INTENT TO BETTER PREPARE THE STUDENT FOR A POST SECONDARY EDUCATION.

  18. La Diferencia…. LA DIFERENCIA PRINCIPAL ENTRE EL TAKS Y STAAR o EOC Es que estos exámenes serán mas difíciles y enfocados a los conceptos específicos del curso con el fin de preparar mejor al estudiante para la universidad.
